Congratulations Tristan and Lexa!

Our nephew Tristan got engaged this week to the lovely Lexa! We spent some time with them last month when we were in Savannah and had a great time and are so happy for them. They are a great couple (fun and just a tad bit silly as evidenced by the photo below) and we wish them all the happiness in the world!

Good news from China

The CCAA (that’s China Center for Adoption Affairs) has updated their web site and processed the latest files. They have matched the latest group of referrals through June 28th 2005. That is 13 days of referrals, which doesn’t sound like a lot, but after the past few months of slowdowns, we are thrilled with this progress.

There is this terribly addictive site run by the Rumor Queen, and although we adoptive parents-to-be hate ourselves for it sometimes, we visit it far too frequently.

She has a chart that shows when the CCAA has updated their site in the past few months, so we might hope to see the next “finished reviewing” update to occur in August, which will mean we have made it through review and are in the matching room– how cool is that! I have also included her chart illustrating the statistics for the past 16 months of referrals.

As you can see below, numbers have dropped considerably from a high of 38 days worth of referrals on 7/29/05 to a low of 5 days on 3/27/06. The CCAA has stated that they do not think they will get back to the high numbers of last year, nor will they return to the 6-8 month time frame for referrals, but perhaps we can look forward to the 12 month timeframe that they spoke about on their recent trip to the U.S.

I still would love to see a picture of Lily Kate for Christmas and hold onto that small glimmer of hope.

Congratulations to all those families about to get their referrals!

It's a Family Affair

I have been trying to find time to post about last week's family vacation and just haven't been able to until tonight. We took lots of photos and rather than try to put a caption on each picture, I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves.

Jonathan's brothers, Daniel and Michael, and their wives, Shelby and Lisa, are just some of the best people you will ever meet; they are so fun and easy to be with. They are also wonderful parents and we have learned so much from them. We love hanging out with our nieces and nephews (Travis, Morgan, Matthew and Jackie from oldest to youngest) and the week passed by way too fast. We had the best time just watching the kids playing in the ocean and the pool, making sandcastles, running from the waves, collecting shells and just having a blast. Lots of great memories made! Well, just see for yourself...

5 months down

Friday will mark five months since our dossier was logged in. I have to say that the time has truly flown by! It’s funny how time does that, especially when you look ahead toward something that seems so far away, and then in the blink of an eye, it’s not only there, it’s over. I hope that the next 5-7 months go just as quickly, since it looks like dossier to referral times are getting close to a year. I can wait however long I need to, but I hope and pray that the wait does not go past 18 months. That will be a little harder to get through.

We are doing lots of things to fill the time before Lily Kate arrives. This Saturday, we leave for a week at the beach with family – Jonathan’s brothers, their wives and kids – 10 of us in all. This is our first foray into a family vacation, but I think we will have a great time and create some wonderful memories. We are really looking forward to it. After we get back, no more trips for a while…we need to get started on the nursery and finish about a dozen other house projects – why is a house never “done”?

BTW, we now have a guestbook on the blog, so if you don't care to comment on specific posts and just want to say hello, please scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on guestbook. I like to know who's been here :)
