Early rumors

The first rumors are pointing to January 4th, or maybe 5th, as the cut-off.  We knew this month was very much a long shot for us, but we should be in for next month - if they get through the same amount of days as the past few months (reminder: our login date is January 10th).  We are so close, I can feel it!  I am starting to get a little anxious that I have so much to do, as we are trying to get our house ready to put on the market and begin construction on the new one, so lots going on.  I am starting to update my baby registries and compile our travel lists in preparation.  Finally, we can start to get excited again - I can hardly believe we are almost there!

***Update:  There is now a possibility that referrals may be included up to the 6th!  This would help us feel even more confident that April will be our month, since the CCAA would only need to get through 4 days to get to us...keep praying everyone!

Finally...we are on the charts!

Last months referrals covered LID's up to and including December 27th, 2005.  This puts only 14 log in days in between us and a referral.  We are thrilled to see our date on the projection charts at long last (courtesy of RQ)!  If the CCAA does a better job than last month, we should get to see our LK's face in March; if they do about the same as last month, we will see her in April.  That is not long at all!  As much as I would love to see her next month, I can definitely live with the idea of knowing we are absolutely, positively next in April. That would get me through one more month of waiting.

I have never been a particularly patient person, but this journey has taught me about the value of patience and even more that that, the importance of faith.  I have had moments where this has seemed like an endless wait and the not-knowing was frustrating and painful and downright hard, but I have never questioned that God was right there with me, holding me fast, giving me comfort.  I know His wisdom surpasses my understanding and I just had to trust that we would get through and our prayers would be answered in the most perfect timing of all - God's time. It won't be long now until we are celebrating the moment we have been preparing for, and will see the light of God's love shining through the eyes of our daughter - and that will be worth every second of this wait.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar.

The first day of the Lunar New Year is "the welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth. Many people abstain from meat on the first day of the new year because it is believed that this will ensure long and happy lives for them.

On the second day, the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as to all the gods. They are extra kind to dogs and feed them well as it is believed that the second day is the birthday of all dogs.

The third and fourth days are for the sons-in-laws to pay respect to their parents-in-law.

The fifth day is called Po Woo. On that day people stay home to welcome the God of Wealth. No one visits families and friends on the fifth day because it will bring both parties bad luck.

On the sixth to the 10th day, the Chinese visit their relatives and friends freely. They also visit the temples to pray for good fortune and health.

The seventh day of the New Year is the day for farmers to display their produce. These farmers make a drink from seven types of vegetables to celebrate the occasion. The seventh day is also considered the birthday of human beings. Noodles are eaten to promote longevity and raw fish for success.

On the eighth day the Fujian people have another family reunion dinner, and at midnight they pray to Tian Gong, the God of Heaven.

The ninth day is to make offerings to the Jade Emperor.

The 10th through the 12th are days that friends and relatives should be invited for dinner.

After so much rich food, on the 13th day you should have simple rice congee and mustard greens (choi sum) to cleanse the system.

The 14th day should be for preparations to celebrate the Lantern Festival which is to be held on the 15th night.

Gong Xi Fa Cai everyone - Happy Year of the Rat!  May it be filled with love, happiness, prosperity and blessings for all of us!

So our new little pup is just a joy to have around. He is around 7 months old, which means he is sort of in between puppy and adult - a tweenager!  I took him for his first vet visit yesterday and he checked out perfectly (and was so well-behaved).  He has one eye that is multi-colored - part blue and part brown (you can kinda see it in the second photo), but it only adds to his character.

He is smart and so eager to please, it is great time to begin training and establishing good habits. He is doing so well and adjusting to his new life - we are completely in love with this little guy already.  He is sitting at my feet as I type this, where he is most of the day.  He just seems so happy to be home and is basking in all the attention and love. Welcome home Henry!

Note:  Henry was adopted from Atlanta Pet Rescue.  They are a wonderful organization that really cares about putting pets in the right homes.

Little Mouse Emergency Fund

Winter storms - the worst in 50 years - continue to affect large parts of China and will for the next 10 days or so. Many orphanages are struggling to keep the babies warm, fed and diapered. Half the Sky has set up an emergency relief fund to get the provinces the help they need to get through this crisis. You can read their latest update here.

Please consider donating something to help this wonderful organization. Our daughter is in an orphanage - maybe one that is struggling with no electricity, or running out of food, blankets or diapers.  Any amount can help, so please give what you can.

Happy Birthday Jonathan!

Today is my sweet husband's birthday.  If I haven't already made it clear, I am crazy about this guy. He is the funniest, smartest, kindest, sexiest man I know. Loving him makes me a better person. I can't imagine going through this life without him.

We have been talking about getting a dog for some time now, and we are heading off to look at some dogs this afternoon.  Stay tuned for news about a furry family member!

Happy Birthday Johnny - I love you! Next year Lily Kate will be helping you blow out your candles!

P.S. We are happy to hear about the latest cut-off date for referrals of 12/27.  Now there are only 14 days of LID's between us and our baby...it won't be long now!

Update:  Okay, it's official - we are owners of an adorable little dog we named Henry. He isn't the dog we went to see, but we fell in love and he's ours! He's some sort of terrier mix , about 6 months old, and he's awfully sweet and friendly and will be a great buddy for Lily Kate.
